ROSCOE DELL VERNON
Oberlin Herald - 1958
Roscoe Dell Vernon, son of William and Clarissa (Dew) Vernon, was born near
Norcatur, Jan. 6, 1888, and departed this life after an illness of 18 months,
at the Decatur County hospital, April 6, at the age of 70 years and three
months.
He spent his early years on the farm where he was born, with the exception of
a few years spent in Colorado on his homestead. In 1943, he and his family
moved to Oberlin where they resided until his death.
He was united in marriage to Mabel E. Holben, Nov. 14, 1918. To this union
were born four children, Christine Beth, who died in infancy; Clara Maxine,
Eileen May and Russell Dean.
Mr. Vernon loved to play with the children
especially the 11 grandchildren, and they in turn always came in with a
"Hi Grandpa," when they came to see him during his illness.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Mabel; his children, Mr. and Mrs.
John R. (Maxine) Hill and family, Mr. and Mrs. G. E. (Eileen) Morgan and
family, and Mr. and Mrs. Russell Vernon and family; four sisters, Mae wood,
Norcatur; Bessie McCarty and Zella Pennington of Denver and Mrs. Olive
Robinson of Oregon City, Oregon.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, seven brothers and sisters,
four having died in infancy; and a baby daughter.
The family circle has been broken but some day we hope the circle will be
complete again, and God's plans are completed.
Friends and relatives here from a distance for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs.
L. C. Mulkey and Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Holben, Phillipsburg; Glen Swayne,
Stockville, Nebr.; Mrs. Zella Pennington and Mrs. Bessie McCarty, Denver; Mrs.
Harvey Mealey, Casper, Wyoming; Mr. and Mrs. Russell Vernon and family, Denver
and Mr. and Mrs. John R. Hill and family, Manhattan (KS).
