Gelespey, P - (Burrton). P. Gelespey enlisted as private in Co. D. 13th Kansas in August 1862. Was in engagements at Cain Hill, Prairie Grove, Honey Springs, Fort Smith. Served three years, wounded in left ankle and left shoulder, near Texas. (Our Old Soldiers, written by A. Perry, G.A.R., published in the Burrton Monitor, Friday February 3, 1882. Page 2).
Goodwine, John - (Burrton). John Goodwine enlisted in December 1864 as a private in Company E, 11th Indiana Cavalry, discharged in June, 1865. Took part in battle at Nashville, discharged on account of disease contracted while in the line of duty. (Our Old Soldiers, written by A. Perry, G.A.R., published in the Burrton Monitor, Friday February 10, 1882. Page 2). John J. Goodwine enlisted February 27th 1862 as a private in Company A, Missouri Cavalry. Served 4 years. Gorgas, John - (Burrton). John Gorgas enlisted in August 1861 as private in Company A 34th Illinois INfantry; served about two years, was in the battles of Pittsburg Landing, Corinth, Iuka, Bridgeport, Champion Hills, Triune, and Stone River. Was wounded at Stone River in right hip, and under the right ear, in left shoulder, and in the jaw-bone, was captured and recaptured at the same place. (Our Old Soldiers, written by A. Grubbs, John W. - (Burrton). J.W. Grubbs enlisted September 1864 as private in Company F, 51st Indiana heavy artillery. Served one year in Dept. of the Gulf under General Camby. (Our Old Soldiers, written by A. Perry, G.A.R., published in the Burrton Monitor, Friday September 22, 1882. Page 2). John W. Grubbs was born in 1844 and died in 1919. He was married to Jennie Grubbs (0847-1920). John & Jennie had a son, Charley Grubbs, born Oct. 20, 1879, died September 13, 1884, and a son Willie Grubbs who died January 18, 1888. All are buried in the Burrton Cemetery, Burrton Kansas, Block 3 Lots 150 Graves 1,2,4,&5. Buried in Grave 3 is Maurice Grubbs (1892-1893), son of R.W. & Ella Grubbs.
