Page, George W. - (Burrton). George W. Page enlisted in September 1861 as private in Co. 1, 8th Illinois Volunteer Cavalry, served one year. Was injured in the line of duty and sent to the hospital where he remained seven months. (Our Old Soldiers, written by A. Perry, G.A.R., published in the Burrton Monitor, Friday February 3, 1882. Page 2). George W. Page was born in 1835 and died in 1920. He was married to Lenora H. Page. George & Lenora are buried in the Burrton Cemetery, Block 2 Lot 44, Graves 2 & 3.
Palmer, H. C. - (Burrton). H. C. Palmer enlisted February 1862 as private in Co. H. 15th Iowa Infantry. Served two years, was engaged in battles of Shiloh, and in skirmishes near Goldsboro, North Carolina. (Our Old Soldiers, written by A. Parker, J. R. - (Burrton). J. R. Parker enlisted as private in April 1861 in Co. I 39th Ohio Infantry; served four years and seven months, was promoted through the grades of Sergeant, Orderly Sergeant, second and first Lieutenants and Captain, was in eight principle battles of the Army of the Cumberland, was in the battles of Blue Mills, Lexington, New Madrid, Island No. 10, Pittsburg Landing, Shiloh, Farmington, Corinth, Eastport, Decatur, and in all the general engagements of Sherman's march through Georgia. Parnham, Charles. - (Burrton). Charles Parnham enlisted as private (afterward Corporal) in October 1861, in Co. H (or Co. E) 77th Illinois Infantry. Served three years, was in battles at Vicksburg, Arkansas Post, Fort Gibson, Champion Hills, Black River. Was wounded at Vicksburg in eye and right shoulder. (Our Old Soldiers, written by A. Perry, G.A.R., published in the Burrton Monitor, Friday February 10, 1882. Page 2). Charles Parnham was born April 23, 1836 and died May 29, 1911. He was married to Margaret A. Riley (Nov. 10, 1840 - May 22, 1907). Charles & Margaret are buried in the Burrton Cemetery, Burrton, Kansas, Block 3, Lot 34, Graves 2 & 3. Next to them is buried their infant son, Claude E. Parnham, born 1883 and died 1885.
Payne, Francis M. - (Burrton). F. M. Payne enlisted in May 1861, as private (afterward Sergeant) in Co. H, 1st kansas Infantry. Served three years. Fought at Wilsons Creek, Corinth, Vicksburg, Champion Hills, Black River, Shiloh, Youngs Point, Lake Providence and Victalia; was wounded at Wilson's Creek through right shoulder, right ankle, and left wrist. Was taken prisoner at Wellington and held ten days and then exchanged. (Our Old Soldiers, written by A. Perry, G.A.R., published in the Burrton Monitor, Friday February 10, 1882. Page 2). Francis M. Payne was born January 10, 1831 and died October 18, 1903. He was married to Ruth B. Payne (1835-1924). They are buried together in the Burrton Cemetery, Burrton, Kansas, Block 2 Lot 9, Graves 1 & 2. Next to them is buried William S. Payne (1869-1950) and Elizabeth Payne (1872-1953).
Perry, Adams (Burrton) - Adams Perry shipped as carpenter's mate September 2nd, 1864 on board the U.S. Frigate Colorado for one year, afterward transferred to the Iron clad Canonicus, was present at the storming of Fort Fisher, December 1864, also at the taking of the same in January 1865 by the South Atlantic squadron under Rear Admiral Porter. Phillips, John B. - (Burrton). John B. Phillips enlisted August 31st 1861 as Sargeant, Company A 55th Illinois Infantry. Was discharged in March 1862 at Pitsburgh, Tenn; because of disability contracted in the line of duty. Reenlisted April 30, 1862 in Co. D. 23rd Illinois Veteran Volunteer Infantry. Served in all, four years and a half, was on patrol duty on Baltimore & Ohio Railroad most of the time, this being the dividing line between the two armies. Was permanently injured by a ball, on the retreat from Williams Fort, West Virginia, in January 1864. (Our Old Soldiers, written by A. Proctor, Hailey - (Burrton). Hailey Proctor was born to John & Hanna Proctor on March 12, 1888 and died April 1, 1949. He was a veteran of World War I, serving as Co Pfc 158th Infantry 40th Division. He is buried in the Burrton Cemetery next to his parents in Block 3, Lot 198, Grave 3.
Proctor, John (Burrton) - John Proctor enlisted November 1861 as private in Co. C 52nd Indiana volunteers, discharged November 1862 for disease contracted in the line of duty, re-enlisted January 1865 and served through the rest of the war, was at taking of Fort Donaldson. (Our Old Soldiers, written by A. Perry, G.A.R., published in the Burrton Monitor, Friday February 3, 1882. Page 2). John Proctor was born in 1838 and died in 1923. He was married to Hannah Proctor (1845-1933). They are buried together in the Burrton Cemetery, Block 3 Lot 198, Graves 1 & 2. John & Hannah had 2 children who died young (Frankie Proctor died Nov. 1, 1882, and Eddie Proctor was born Sept. 13, 1882 and died Sept. 18, 1884). Another son, Hailey Proctor, was born March 12, 1888 and died April 1, 1949; Hailey was a veteran of World War I.
