The first name upon the official record of practicing physicians in the court house at Lincoln is that of Frank Cogswell, who registered shortly after his arrival here 21 years ago. From this we infer that the system of registering was insitituted by law at or about that time.
The record contains a long list of names among which are found those of physicians who have been forgotten or moved away. The length of the list precludes our publishing it entire, as was our original intention, so we confine it to a list of the physicians now resident in the county, and present them in the order in which we find them upon the record, together with a synopsis of the different data as to length of practice, school of medicine, and institution or institutions from which each is a graduate, recorded with the name.
W.M. Patterson of Yorktown has practiced 36 years and studied medicine at Starling Medical School, Columbus, Ohio.
E.S. Newton of Lincoln has practiced 28 years and studied medicine at the Medical College of Ohio at Cincinnati.
J.D. Sherrick of Lincoln has practiced 21 years and is a graduate of the Medical Department of the University of Michigan.
Joseph F. Pickerel of Beverly has practiced 14 years, and is a graduate of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Keokuk, Iowa, and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Kansas City, Kan.
G.W. Simpson of Sylvan Grove has practiced 17 years, and is a graduate of the Indiana College of Medicine at Indianapolis.
H.M. Hall of Lincoln has practiced 33 years and is a graduate of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Keokuk, Iowa.
Sarah A. Cole of Lincoln has practiced nine years and is a graduate of the Medical Annex of the Iowa State University and of Hannemann Medical College and Hospital of Chicago.
