Obituary of CAROL EUGENE COLEMAN

Carol Eugene Coleman, 83, resident of the Marion County Lake community, died July 27, 2000, at Marion.

Services were held Monday morning at Eastmoor United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Goering officiating. Greg Bowers was vocal soloist and Anita Brookens the organist.

Casket bearers were Harold Conyers, Royal Smith, Rick Lowe, Rick Branson, Gary Ewert, and Greg Bowers. Honorary bearers were Kenneth Schwendiman, Homer Stiller, Dean Fincham, and Bill Stoltenberg.

A committal service was held Monday afternoon at Grace Lawn Cemetery, Howard, with Pastor Marty Dewitt officiating.

A memorial fund has been established in his name at Eastmoor United Methodist Church.

The third of five children of Carl and Emma (Yust) Coleman, he was born Nov. 6, 1916, at Sylvia. He grew up in the community, working on his family dairy farm. After graduating from high school he played football and received a bachelor's degree from Kansas State University in 1939.

He taught vocational agriculture until entering the Navy in 1943. He rose to the rank of full lieutenant in the Navy, teaching fire control at Notre Dame University and courses at Dartmouth University. Following military service he taught one year at Chanute, then became manager of a propane company in Iowa
Over the years he was active in various businesses, including manager of Wichita Park Cemetery in Wichita.

After moving to Marion County Lake, he became active in Chat and Dine Club, serving as president two years, and worked diligently to get water and sewer service for the lake community.

He was active in Albert Pike Masonic Lodge at Wichita, where he participated in ceremonial work.
Also active in his church, he taught the Harmony Sunday school class.

A talented wood worker, he created many items which he donated to the church and members of his family.
He and Dorothy (Wells) Crumrine were married Sept. 1, 1978.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, of the home; two sons, Kenneth of Grandview, Mo., and James and his wife, Eva, also of Grandview, Mo.; two daughters, Ann Marie and her husband Charles Lusher of Ortonville, Mich., and Sheryl L. Rader of Park City; one stepson, Dan Crumrine and his wife, Betty, Marion; nine grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren; other relatives and a multitude of friends. A memorial fund has been established in his name at the church.
