Obituary of DANIEL MEYER HESS |
Daniel M. Hess Daniel Meyer Hess was born at Rush Valley Penn, Aug 5, 1870 and passed away at the Axtell Hospital in Newton, Kansas on August 5, 1947 on his seventy seventh birthday. He was married to Elizabeth Stevenson, on September 18, 1890 at Morrellville, Penn. They came to Peabody, Kansas in the spring of 1893. To this union were born seven children, who beside the widow survive him. The children are: Harry Hess of Burns. Lester Hess of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Jessie Atkin, Roy Hess, Don Hess, Ivy and Gladys Hess of Peabody, Kansas. There are twenty seven grand children and one great grand child. Sisters surviving are Mrs Annie Ross, Wellington, KS., Mrs Kate Underwood, Brush Valley Penn., and one brother, Sam Hess of Indiana, Penn. also a niece and nephew Mr. and Mrs. Charles Paulson of Whitewater, KS., Honorary pallbearers were the grandsons of the deceased, Oliver, Can, Albert, Edward and Raymond Hess and William Atkins. Mr. Hess had spent fifty four years in Peabody community having engaged in farming and carpentering. He was a member of Peabody Methodist Church having served on the official board and the board of Stewards of the church. Funeral services were conducted by rev. C. M. Nutter Friday afternoon Aug 8 at the Methodist Church. Burial was in Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Peabody, Kansas. Among the out of town relatives and friends here to attend the funeral services were Mrs. Annie Ross, Mr and Mrs W R Armstrong and twins, Wellington, Mr and Mrs M H Ross, Mayfield, Harley Johnson, Mr and Mrs Jack Kaltenbaugh, Mr and Mrs Ed Hess, Mr and Mrs Dan Hess and Miss Dorothy Hess Wichita, C. H. Paulson, Whitewater, Mrs Herzog Ellsworth, Mrs Ralph Purviance, Emporia, Mr and Mrs Ray Hess, Eldorado, Mr and Mrs Lester Hess, Ft. Collins, Colo., Mr and Mrs Jack Sebree, Rising Sun, Ind. |
