Obituary of DONALD R. HOOVER
Donald R. Hoover, 71, died July 28, 2000, at Marion Manor nursing home in Marion.

The son of Roy and Ruby (Williams) Hoover, he was born Nov. 10, 1928, at Marion. He grew up in the community, attended local schools, and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force Dec. 29, 1947. 

He attended two service schools for clerks, and after serving his enlistment was discharged in 1950. 
On April 12, 1948, he was married to Dorothy N. Wendlandt at Herington. The couple had one son, Kelly, and two daughters, Patricia and Janet. 

He worked for the Rock Island Railroad as a switchman and retired in 1990. 
After living in the Brandon Woods Retirement Community at Lawrence, in the Alzheimer unit, he moved to Marion Manor in 1999. 

His hobbies included coin collecting, fishing, hunting, trapping, and collecting and refinishing antique furniture.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, of Herington; son Kelly of Lawrence and daughters Patricia A. Hailey of Lawrence and Janet Rindt of Lost Springs; brother, John Hoover of Santa Monica, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services were held today, Wednesday, at Zeiner Funeral Home, Marion, with Jason Hailey officiating. 
Madonna Schafers was the vocalist and Charlene Svitak the organist. 

Casket bearers were Jack Webb, Jacob Hoover, Jared Hailey, Travis Rindt, Brenda Woodcox, and Heidi Hoover. Honorary bearers were Jamielee Hoover, Caleb Woodcox, Adam Woodcox, Dylan Woodcox, Owen Woodcox, and Trevin Rindt. 
Burial was in Marion Cemetery. 
Memorial funds have been established in his name at Marion Manor and with Marion City Library.
