Obituary of LuVENA HATTERMAN |
LuVena Hatterman, 87, longtime and well
known dispatcher in the Marion County Sheriff's Office, died Dec. 21,
2000, at St. Luke Living Center.During her 30-year career in law
enforcement, as both a capable secretary and efficient radio dispatcher,
she touched the lives of nearly all Marion County people. During those years she also reported courthouse data and statistics for Marion County newspapers. Born March 11, 1913, at Best, Ark., she was the daughter of Amous L. and Lula F. (Wisdom) Bogart. They moved to Kansas when she was a child. Her father was a hardware merchant and farmer at Marion. A 1931 graduate of Marion High School, she attended Wichita Business College, and became a stenographer. She worked in the county sheriff's office from the 1940s until her retirement in 1978. When two-way radio service was installed in the late 1940s, she became the chief dispatcher and her voice was well known over the airwaves. She was a member of Eastmoor United Methodist Church and the Marion VFW Auxiliary. A compassionate person, she was always ready to help others. She enjoyed life and was a friend to all. After she married William Hatterman on Nov. 9, 1959, the couple farmed in the Tampa community. He died July 16, 1987. Survivors include her sister, Velma Bredemeier of Carrollton, Mo.; five nieces, Nova Bruner and Beverly Jirak of Marion, Roberta Warren of Wakenda, Mo., Donna Robertson of Wichita, and Betty Poteet of Sweet Home, Ore.; one nephew, Estel Bogart of Tulsa, Okla.; seven grandnieces and nephews; and 12 great-grandnieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill; brother, Leonard Bogart; sister, Frances Bashor; and a nephew, Gary Bogart. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at Eastmoor United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Goering officiating. Burial was in Marion Cemetery. Greg Carlson was the vocal soloist and Ruth Jo Penner the organist. Casket bearers were Kevin Jirak, Tim Jirak, Rodney Jirak, Rick Cleeton, Frank Soyez, and Ed Warren. A memorial fund has been established at the church. |
