Obituary of JUSTINE VOGT |
Justine Vogt, 97, of California, died Oct.
12, 2000. Born Dec. 2, 1902, in Hillsboro, she was the daughter of Issak
and Florentine Leppke. Her family homesteaded a farm in the Ebenfeld
community after her father came from Russia in 1874. She had six brothers
and two sisters. She attended Ebenfeld Mennonite Brethren Church and attended elementary school in the school house there. In the early 30s she received Christ and was baptized in the Cottonwood River. She became an active member of the church and enjoyed the Sewing Circle. On Dec. 26, 1923, she married Sam Vogt and was married 57 years before his death on Oct. 28, 1981. They farmed in the Ebenfeld community from 1929 to 1939. In 1940, her husband joined his brothers in the grocery business, and they moved to Hillsboro and joined the Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church. Later, they established their own grocery business in Enid, Okla. In 1952 they moved to Concord, Calif., and then to Reedley, Calif., in 1955. They became active in the Reedley Mennonite Brethren Church. She cooked for local schools and the Palm Haven Retirement Home. She enjoyed quilting for the Mennonite Central Committee. One of her special interests was to renovate old dolls and donate them to the MCC at the Nearly New Shop. |
