Obituary of RONALD G. HETT |
Ronald G. Hett was born Nov. 15, 1914, on
a farm north of Marion. He was the third of 10 children born to John and
Rena (Conyers) Hett. When he was five years old the family moved to the family farm south of Aulne. He attended grade school at Aulne and graduated from Marion High School in 1933. On Nov. 15, 1936, he married Ruby Just at her family home near Aulne. The couple had five children, Willard, Clifford, Edith Jane, Louise, and Alice. After completing high school, he began farming and spent his entire life farming and raising livestock in Marion County. He became a member of the Aulne church in 1926 and was the oldest living member of Aulne United Methodist Church at the time of his death. Ron and Ruby were married for 63 years. In July 1995, Ruby went to live at Marion Manor. Ron visited her daily. He welcomed all his in-laws into his family as his own children. When his daughter, Janie and husband Thad opened their home to foreign exchange students, so did Ron. Christian and Henrik Pedersen adopted him as their American grandfather. When Christian decided to live in America, his wife and family became a part of Ron's family. He enjoyed fishing and taught that love to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Ron died May 7, 2000, at St. Luke Hospital at the age of 85. He is survived by his wife, Ruby; sons, Willard of Marion, Clifford and Evelyn of Peabody; daughters Edith (Janie) and Thad Meierhoff and Louise and Gail Whiteman of Marion, and Alice and Martin Nellans of Peabody; grandchildren, Alan and Susie Hett, Donald and Dawn Hett, Chris and Kathy Meierhoff, Justin, Jess, and Jarvis Whiteman, Christian and Stacey Pederson, all of Marion, Neil Hett and Carrie Nellans of Peabody, Barbara and Gary Alleven of Wichita, Eileen Hett of Emporia, Denise and Todd Carter of El Dorado, Audra and Matt Jezewski of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Henrik Pedersen of Denmark; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ellen Darrow and Iva Unruh of Marion; two brothers, Jim and John of Marion; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Edith, who died at birth; brothers Tom, Ern, Russ, and Walt; daughter-in-law, Alvina Hett; grandsons, Cecil Meierhoff and Calvin Hett.
