Obituary of RODNEY LEE HERZET

Rodney Lee Herzet, 56, Marion farmer-stockman, died from a heart attack April 8, 2000, at his home.

Born Oct. 7, 1943, at Wichita, he was the son of Thomas and Alberta (Meirowsky) Herzet. He attended school in Cedar Point, graduating from high school in the class of 1962.

As a boy his desire was to farm and ranch with his father, which he did until his
untimely death.

He joined the Kansas National Guard in 1964 and received his basic training at Fort Leonardwood, Mo. He was a member of the 69th Bridge Platoon which was called to active duty in May 1968 during the Vietnam War.

He was married to Barbara Bezdek March 15, 1969. The couple had two children, Jeffrey and Jennifer. They were divorced in 1983.

On Nov. 21, 1986, he was married to Lorita Kraus. In 1988 he adopted Lori's son, Travis, and in 1991 their son, Justin, was born.

He was a lifetime member of Holy Family Catholic Parish.

An avid sportsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was devoted to his family as a husband, father, grandfather, and brother.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Alberta Herzet; and brother-in-law, Bernard Weber. He is survived by his wife, Lori, of the home; sons Travis and Justin of the home; son Jeff and his wife, Delores, and their children, Nicole, Ericka, Kristin, and Courtney; daughter, Jennifer Herzet; and granddaughter, Morgan; all of Marion; sister, Donna Fink and her husband, Delmer, Florence; brother, Robert, and his wife, Marlene, Hillsboro; parents-in-law, Raymond and Rita Kraus, Marion; sister-in-law, Alice Trego and her husband, Allen, New Bremen, Ohio; brothers-in-law, Don Kraus and his wife, Vickie, Leroy Kraus and his wife, Ronda, all of Marion,
Dennis Kraus and his wife, Joyce, and Paul Kraus and his wife, Diane, all of
Wichita; many nieces and nephews.

The rosary was recited Tuesday evening at Holy Family Church, Marion, and the funeral mass was offered Wednesday morning at Holy Family Church in Florence. Burial with military graveside honors was in Marion Cemetery.

Father Steve Gronert was the officiating clergyman. Music was by Jeff Bina,
vocalist, and Sara Zogelman, organist. Charlene Svitak was organist at the Rosary.

Casket bearers were Jeff Herzet, Travis Herzet, Robert Herzet, Jim Herzet, Don Kraus, and Leroy Kraus.

Honorary bearers were Justin Herzet, Paul Kraus, Allen Trego, Raymond Kraus, Dennis Kraus, and Delmer Fink.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Herzet Children Educational Fund.
