Sylvester A. Ford, son of Alonzo and Elmina Taylor Ford was
born in Republic County Kansas, on Oct. 29, 1877, and passed away at the Norton
County Hospital on July 29, 1954, at the age of 76 years, 9 months.
He came to Norton County in 1901 and was married
to Mabel Amanda Whetstone on Sep. 21, 1903, at Norton. The couple
lived on a farm southeast of Norton for several years; then moved to Norton
where Mr. Ford was a section foreman for a number of years for the Burlington
Railroad. The Fords raised six daughters and one son, all of them whom
survived their parents.
Mrs. Ford passed away July 3, 1948. During their many years in
Norton, the Fords were liked and respected by their neighbors and friends.
Mr. Ford was a kind, generous man whose friends were numbered by his
acquaintances. He was a member of the Baptist Church in Norton. For
several years he made his home with his son Henry Ford.
Surviving are his seven children; Mrs. Herbert Fought, Lenora;
Mrs. John Mathes, Norton; Henry Ford, Norton; Mrs. Larry Teachworth,
Sacramento, Calif; Mrs. O.J Cook, Lodi, Calif; Mrs. Art Hanselman,
Lodi,Calif; and Mrs. Edwin Waltkamp, Sacramento, Calif; three brothers,
L.A Ford, Norton, Kansas A.J Ford and E.J Ford of Kersey,
Colorado; one sister, Mrs. L.E Payne, Meridian, Kansas; 18 grandchildren
and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held from Scott-Brantley Funeral Home Sunday Aug. 4
with Rev. Rex Harmon officiating. Music was furnished by Mrs. Addie Mustoe and
Mrs. Rex Harmon organist. Hymns sung were In the Upper Garden and When I
Get to the End of the Way.
Pallbearers, were William E. Fry, Paul Beaty, Marion Harper, Gilbert Lesh,
Blevins Brooks and Carrol Mizell. Burial was in the Norton Cemetery.
Relatives from out of town attending the service were Mr. & Mrs.
Herbert Fought, Lenora; Mr. & Mrs. Earl Payne, Meridian,
Kansas; Mr. & Mrs. A.J Ford , Kersey, Colo; and Mrs. Eva Hamburger
and son of Greeley, Colorado.
