COUNTY FORMATION

Pratt County had a turbulent beginning. Pratt was one of the counties that experienced a fake. It was created in 1867 and named for Caleb Pratt. In 1873 an attempt to "reorganize" failed. In 1879 citizens petitioned the governor for organization. The north and south boundaries varied in the early years. And, there was contention between Saratoga, Pratt, and Iuka for the county seat.

Pratt is the current county seat.
