Clara  ‘C. J.’ Abernathy

 

Clara “C. J.” Abernathy, 49, of 327 Park Street, died June 9, 1997, at her home.

She was born Feb. 25, 1948, at Providence, Ky., the daughter of Ben Ragon and Blanche Pauline Ball Hackney.  A Hutchinson resident since 1975, she was a waitress for the Moose Lodge, Hutchinson.

She belonged to Women of the Moose Hutchinson Chapter No. 1317.

In 1965 she married Konard K. Abernathy.  He died in 1990.

Survivors include: a companion, Donald Claypole, of the home; two sons, Roger, Plevna, and Timothy, Wichita; a daughter, Melissa Abernathy, Hutchinson; mother, Pauline Minton, Alma, Ark.; a brother, Richy Miller, Louisville, Ky.; three sisters, Wanda Meadors, Alma, Ark., Deborah Huffman, Gibsonton, Fla., and Mickey Riley, Port Ritchey, Fla.; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with the Rev. Willard D. Stafford presiding.  Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the mortuary.  Burial will be in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson.
