Jack Dee Clouse
Oklahoma City Jack Dee Clouse, 89, died Dec. 14,
2003 at Oklahoma City.
He was born Sept. 12, 1914, at Iowa, the son of
Virgil Ezra and Grace Anderson Clouse. A longtime Hutchinson resident, he
moved to Oklahoma City in 2001. He was a past Hutchinson city champion who
realized his dream of contributing to golf after he retired as a
superintendent in the Hutchinson Post Office. He helped keep score for the
Kansas Golf Association junior tournaments and rated Kansas golf
courses. His chief local contribution came as the executive director of the
South Central Seniors Golf Tournament at the Carey Park Golf Course. Jack
cultivated his 20-year hobby after Preston Custer and former Carey Park pro
Harold Hoffman helped start the local 36-hole senior tournament. It was
said of Jacks effectiveness as a tournament director that seniors around
Kansas marked their calendar to be in Hutchinson the first week of
August. When the South Central Tournament started, 40 players competed. The
idea quickly caught fire and eventually, the tournament g!
rew to more than 300 players.
Survivors include: his wife Theodosia; a brother,
Bernard, Albuquerque, N.M.; a sister, Virginia Wickstead, Phoenix, Ariz.; a
sister-in-law, Ann Ersland, Oklahoma City; a brother-in-law and his wife,
Bob and Justine Ebey, New Windsor, N.Y.; many nieces and nephews in
Oklahoma, New Mexico and Arizona; several great and great, great nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three
brothers, Robert, Ed, and Sid.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Smith &
Kernke Chapel, Oklahoma City. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Tuesday, December 16, at Smith & Kernke.
