JOHN HICKMAN
John Hickman was born in Greenbrier County, Va., March 15, 1821, and died at the home of his son, 5 miles south of Sterling, Jan. 26, 1906, aged 84 years, 10 months, and 11 days. He was married to Elizabeth Staly, Oct. 29, 1846. To this union were born seven children, one of whom survives him, Mrs. J. E. Dempsey, of Oak Hill, West Virginia. His second marriage was to Mary M. Huddleston, Dec. 10, 1868. to this union were born six children, of whom four survive him--J. E. Hickman, Mrs. F. S. (should be Mrs. Minor Chappell) Chapple and Mrs. F. S. Humiston, all of Ingalls, Kan., and Overton Hickman, with whom the deceased has resided for several years. Both wives have preceded him in death. He moved with his family to Miami Couty, Kan., in Nov. 1882, and to the present home in Reno County, Kans., in March 1884. Funeral services were conducted at the home by Rev. L. E. Farney and attended by a large concourse of sympathizing friends.
