Rickenbrode Obituary
"MEDORA LEADER TAKEN BY DEATH"
H. J. RICKENBRODE ENGAGED IN BUSINESS THERE 30 YEARS; WAS ALSO
POSTMASTER
H. J. Rickenbrode, 76, for more than thirty years a general
merchant at Medora and for several years postmaster of that town, died
at 10:50 this morning at a Hutchinson hospital. (March 14, 1933)
He had been ill for some time with dropsy, and was moved to the
hospital about a week ago.
The funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, at the Community
church in Medora. The body will lie in state at the home after 9
a.m. Thursday.
Mr. Rickenbrode was widely known over the county, he was for
years Republican precinct committeeman for Medora township on the county
committee of his party.
His wife died five years ago. He is survived by four sons,
Jesse E. of Neodesha, KS, Cyril G. of Wichita, Howard R. of
Indianapolis, Ind, and Dwight of Tulsa, Okla, and one daughter, Mrs.
Celia Truitt of Medora.
Mr. Rickenbrode was born in Fryburg, PA, August 1856. He later
moved to Kansas in 1878, locating at Ellsworth where he engaged in the
hardware business, later moving to Medora in 1901, where he had been a
business man ever since.
