J. C. Stephenson

 

Joseph C. Stephenson, 73, Building contractor, died yesterday afternoon at his home, 554 Ave C east, following a two year’s illness.

He was born Sept. 5, 1867 at Litchfield, Ill., and came to Hutchinson in 1880.  He started in the carpenter trade at the age of 16 and continued in it until 3 years ago.

He was married Nov. 18, 1888, to Caroline Elizabeth Kahior.  She with eight sons and daughters survive; Mrs. Pearl Bramwell, Mrs. Lillian Bush, Frey L. Stephenson, M. E. Stephenson and Robert Stephenson, all of Hutchinson; Mrs. Florence Riner, Protection; Mrs. Edith Labertus, Clinton, Okla., and A. W. Stephenson, Loveland, Colo.; together with three brothers, Chester Stephenson, Hutchinson; Frank Stephenson, Ashland, Ky.; Harry Stephenson, Pasadena, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Bessie Monroe, city; 15 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

He had been a member of the First Baptist church since 1903.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon, at 2 o’clock Johnson and Son’s chapel, Rev. J.J. PreVol officiating.  Burial will be in Eastside cemetery.
