Clark School
Clark school was
established in 1896 on land that was donated across the road from William S.
Clark in Langdon Twp. The records start from 1896 to when the school closed in
1938. From 1896-1902 I have the clerk records and from 1903-1938 I also have
the students records. Their grades, the classes taught, games played, visitors
during the year. I also have gone through the books and found the teachers for
each year and their salaries and how many days they taught. I would be happy to do
look ups
for the names that are listed.
The clerk records that I have include
the board members, what they paid for different supplies, mainly all they did to
keep the school running over the years. If people have any questions about
board meetings, etc. I will be glad to do look ups for the information. The
year or time frame they are looking for would be very helpful.
One of our cousins that just passed away tried to draw a picture of
how the school was arranged inside. He said the students took turns bringing
the lunches. Many of my husbands
relatives attended this school and two or three of them taught in the school.
William S. Clark my husbands Great Grandfather was the "principal". I am sure
this was due to the fact that he donated the land. We have been told he took
great interest in education and books. He donated many of the books to
start the Arlington Library, but they apparently do not have records of how the
library was started. The cousin that drew what the inside of the school looks
like said he remembered helping his Grandfather (who he was named after) take
the books from the farm house to Arlington.
