(Elected in 1912)
Overton Hickman
Stands for a
Progressive, Economic, Business-like
Thirty Years a
Resident of Reno County
Was born in Fayette County, W. Va., Oct 23, 1874 and came to Kansas with his parents in 1882, and has been a continuous resident of Reno County to the present. He was educated in public schools of Reno County, having completed the course of study and received his diploma for the same. After having spent 27 years on a farm in Medford Township, he moved to Hutchinson, served one year as under sheriff which office he resigned to engage in the automobile business and is still a partner in the firm known as the Overland Motor Car Company. Mr. Hickman believes that the office, which he seeks, is an important one and should be conducted along business lines and if elected he will use every endeavor to cut down the expenses of the office and stop every leak, from whatever source it may come. Mr. Hickman believes a candidate should stand on his past record and should not pose during a campaign as being a man different to what he has been in private life, and in a recent talk to the voters, after he had stated his position, he said, “I am just what I am, and what I have always been and still am, I will always remain. I have spent all my life among you and if you are not personally acquainted with my record, I will have you ask your neighbor and very likely he can tell you where you can always find me on matters of public concern and how I have acted in private live, and after a thorough investigation, if you think I would make a good treasurer, I will be very grateful for your support.”
