A couple of weeks ago Humiston told his brother, Eddie, and Mrs. Eddie that if their expected child was a boy he would give the child a $25 bond. Came Oct. 11 and a son was born while Hod was broadcasting a football game. He returned home Saturday night to be advised he owed Roger Humiston a bond. He paid.
October 1961 Hull RetiresH. F. “Skipper” Hull, plant operator #1 at Hutchinson power plant, retires after 41 years with the Company. A native of McPherson, he farmed outside of the town before joining the United Gas and Electric Company in March, 1917. Skipper was with the Company until October of that year when he joined the U.S. Navy. He returned to United Gas and Electric in 1920 and has been with KPL since that time. In his many years with the Company, Skipper has worked every job in the plant on maintenance and operation. He has never had a lost time accident, and went over 11 years without a day off sick. He is a member of the American Legion, Elks Lodge, Masons and Eastern Star. Skipper and his wife, Evelyn, are members of the United Presbyterian Church.

Humiston fund establishedFamily and friends of the late Hod Humiston have begun a memorial fund to establish a scholarship through the Endowment Association at Hutchinson Community College. The annual scholarship will be for a communications and broadcast student. Contributions to the fund may be made through Hutchinson National Bank and should be marked for the Humiston Memorial Fund.

Anniversary CelebrationsFormer Hutchinson residents, Mr. And Mrs. Earl Byrd of Mesa, Ariz., will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary at a reception from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday in Forest Park United Presbyterian Church. Serving as hosts for the occasion will be their children, Dean and Ruby Byrd, Albuquerque, N.M., and Phyllis and David Long, Washburn, Mo. Assisting will be Mrs. Byrd’s brother and sister-in-law, Mr. And Mrs. Hod Humiston, 833 East B. The Byrds have two grandchildren.
