W. D. McCoy is at Denver. We understand
Mr. McCoy will send his daughters to school at the Denvere university this
winter.Keystone Kinks: Chas. Attig was very sick with typhoid fever, but at this writing it is thought he is a little better. Dr. Williams is attending him. Wm. Plunkett has bought Mr. Akers' claim and moved on it. Mr. Akers is going to Nebraska. Tuesday, September 25th, the community was startled to hear of the sudden death of Little Mary, the two-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Ozbun. She was out doors playing and fell into a tub of water and was drowned. Her death was a great shock to all. The funeral services were held at the family residence on the following day and were conduckted by sister Lukis. The remains were followed to the Grigsby cemetery by a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friend. The bereaved parents have the sympathy of the entire community in this their hour of great affliction. Married, at the bride's parents, near Grigsby, Sunday morning, September 30, by Mr. L. Parks, of Scott City, and Miss Anna Meyers, Rev. Benefield officiating. The sad and funeral cortege wihich passed through Scott last Saturday was that of Mrs. Nathaniel Robbins, wife of our worthy and respected citizen, Judge Robbins, of Beaver township. One of the swell affairs of eastern Scott county was the double wedding at the Mitchell House, Grigsby, Kansas, on October 2nd at 8 o'clock p.m. of I. W. W. Bebout and Mrs. Anna F. Sayer, and Chas. O. Irwin and Miss Clara M. Stine, the brides being sisters. The ceremony was conducted by Rev. J. C. Moore, of Scott. Among those present we noticed Mesdames Belle Thomas, Sarah Cummins and Emma Kilpatrick: Misses Laura and Grace Stine, Jennie Thomas, Jennie Bebout and Josie French, and Messrs. Chas. A., Elmer, Elwood and John Stine, E. V. Critchfield, James N. French and Jacob Thomas. The supper furnished by Landlord Mitchell was excellent.... Judge W. T. O'Connor and Mrs. O. E. Foster, both of this city, went to Dighton Wednesday and were married at the Avenue Hotel at 1 o'clock p.m., Judge Grimstead performing the ceremony. |
Dec. 13, 1888: Scott Sentinel W. W. Threlkeld is back from Kansas
City, and is licking stamps at his official stand.
Keystone Kernels: A. Davis butchered a beef last week. Peter Almquist's sister and husband, of Dighton, paid the former a visit last Sunday. Robert Bliss and his father left last week for Iowa, where they will make their home. One of the twin babies of Mr. and Mrs. Sens died last Wednesday of strangluation. It was laid to rest in the Grigsby cemetery. Beaver and Surroundings: Elmer Coffin has purchased the dairy cows formerly owned by Mr. Craneworth. |
Dec. 20, 1888: Scott Sentinel DIED.
Tuesday evening last, after a lingering illness of several weeks, Mrs. ______ McMenus, wife of Geo. P. McMenus, seven miles north of Scott. As we did not learn the particulars, we are unable to dwell at length on the sad event. Business Locals: Fine Havana Key West cigars at J. W. Lindsey's. Dr. C. P. Gillespie, dentist, at his office over Germon's (?) store. Go t Mohrbacher's Star Grocery for fresh groceries and good cigars. A full line of wall paper, prices reasonable. J. W. Lindsey.
