 ERNEST L. HIBARGER, of Wichita, who has become wealthy as a speculator and dealer in real estate, came to Kansas six years ago with $75 in his pocket. For a period of eighteen months he worked for the munificent salary of $25 per month, but with the habits of industry and economy which had been born and bred in him as a farmer's boy, he managed to save a little something, and was from the first fortunate in his investments. His energy is proverbial, and he is tacitly acknowledged as one of the leading men in his particular line of business.

             Our subject was born in Ogle County, Ill., on the 3d of October, 1859, and is the son of Calvin and Elizabeth (Newcomer) Hibarger, natives of Maryland. His father was born in 1827, and the mother a few years later. They are both living, and residents of Wichita. The father, while a resident of Illinois, carried on farming, and Ernest L. was reared amid the quiet scenes of country life. He attended the common school in his boyhood and completed his studies in Rock River Seminary.

            Mr. Hibarger was united in marriage with Miss Ida Fletcher, the wedding taking place at the home of the bride, on the 9th of June, 1885. The wife of our subject was born in Adams County, Ill., Feb. 3, 1862, and came with her parents to Kansas when a young lady, in 1882. To Mr. and Mrs. H, there has been born one child, a daughter, now deceased.

             Mr. Hibarger commenced his operations in real estate in Wichita, in 1886, and in April of the following year completed his present fine residence, which is located at No. 937 North Waco street. Here he has fifty feet frontage, and is gradually adding the embellishments which will complete one of the finest homes in the city. He has been largely engaged in the purchase and sale of town lots, and now has about twenty of these in different parts of the city. To this branch of business he seems finely adapted, and succeeds admirably in giving satisfaction to his patrons.
