HOWARD ROGERS, who is engaged in general farming and stock-raising on section 18, Waco Township, is a native of Delaware County, Ohio, and made his advent on the stage of life Feb. 11, 1835. He is a son of John and Sarah J. (Finch) Rogers, who were natives of New York and New Jersey, respectively.

        Our subject's father was born in 1804, and removed to Delaware County, Ohio, in his early manhood, where he was married and where he died in 1859. He was a prominent man in the history of that locality, and a stanch member of the old Whig party. His wife was born in 1818, and died Aug. 24, l887, at the advanced age of sixty-nine years. They were the parents of seven children, of whom the following is a record: Adelia married Samuel Mathena, and is residing in Putnam County, Ohio, on a farm, surrounded by her family of four children; Howard, the subject of this sketch, was the next in order of birth; Mary married Dr. S. W. Ingraham, a physician of Chicago, and has two children; Lucina married George Carpenter, who died in Illinois, and is living in Delaware County, Ohio, with her two children; Emeline wedded Thomas Blakely, a farmer in Ohio, and has one child; John, whose wife's maiden name was Fanny Blany, is living in Chicago; and Marion married Hettie Vere, and is engaged in farming in Delaware County, Ohio.

        The subject of this sketch received his education in the common schools of his native county, in the Buckeye State, where he made his home until Nov. 4, 1884, when he removed to this State. He was united in marriage, Oct. 17, 1865, with Miss Sarah B. Carney, a native of Delaware County, Ohio, who was born March 13, 1838, in the first brick house erected in that county. Her father was one of the pioneer settlers of that section of the State, and was born in Pennsylvania, Jan. 6, 1796. He was a physician of more than ordinary ability, and practiced that profession throughout the whole of his life. He was twice elected to the Legislature of the State of Ohio, and served with considerable credit to himself and his constituents, and died May 9, 1869, full of years. His wife was born Jan. 7, 1795, and died April 30, 1871. They were the parents of the following children: Benjamin F., who was born June 9, 1819, is married, has a family of seven children, and is a farmer in Michigan; Ann was born July 3, 1822, married George Sherman, a merchant, and died in Ohio, Jan. 13, 1863, leaving nine children; Joseph D., who was born June 17, 1826, served as Probate Judge at Burlington, Kan., after which he entered the regular army, and died a Captain, at Staten Island, N. Y., Feb. 8, 1866; Edward, who was born June 8, 1833, is in Kansas; Elvira, who was born Oct. 31, 1835, died Aug. 21, 1840; Sarah B., the youngest child, is the wife of the subject of this personal narrative.

        Mr. Rudd is the owner of 150 acres of excellent arable land, which is well cultivated and improved, He is a member of the Masonic fraternity, in good and regular standing, and takes great interest in the work of that order. In his politics he is a steadfast Republican, and is a good, enterprising and progressive citizen of the township and county. To him and his wife have been born a family of five children, as follows: Frank D., born June 9, 1866, is assisting his father in the farm labors, and is one of the model young men of the township; Edwin L., who was born June 25, 1868, is still at home; Charles H., born Sept. 12, 1871; Cora Belle, whose birth took place Aug. 26, 1873; and Porter B., who was born Feb. 26, 1877.
