Autopsy Planned in Youth’s Death

Cause of death of Earl Reed Jr., 19, probably will be established Wednesday, Sedgwick County Coroner Dean L. Bratt said Tuesday night.

Reed, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Reed, 2769 Vassar Court, apparently died sometime before 10:30 a.m. Tuesday while taking a hot water therapy bath at his home for a paralytic condition.

Bratt said he would confer with the victim’s doctor and have an autopsy performed Wednesday morning.

Firemen and police were unable to revive the youth Tuesday morning and death was believed to have been caused by a heart ailment or drowning.

The youth was born March 12, 1940, in Verden, Okla. He had been a Wichita resident for two years, having moved here from Chickasha, Okla. He was a member of Church of God in Christ.

Survivors besides his parents include two brothers, Eurel, 2724 S. Holyoke, and Henry, of the home, and four sisters, Mrs. Georgie Lee Smith, Spencer, Okla., Mrs. Nellie Jean Kemp, 3304 Roseberry Dr., and Ernestine and Joyce Anita, both of the home.

Jackson Mortuary will announce funeral arrangements.

Hotel Timekeeper Dies at Age of 63

James Ira Francis, 63, of 1108 Franklin, died Tuesday at St. Joseph Hospital after a long illness. Mr. Francis was employed as a timekeeper at the Lassen Hotel.

He was born May 17, 1895, at Goreville, Ill. He came to Wichita from Denver, Colo., in 1927. He attended First Baptist Church and was a member of Wichita Masonic Lodge, American Legion and Moose Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Adeline; a daughter, Mrs. Marguerite Reed, 1913 S. Emporia, a son, Jack, Hot Springs, Ark.; two sisters, Mrs. May Kelly, Albuquerque, N.M. and Mrs. Bertha Dawes, Goreville; and five brothers, Herman, Saint Charles, Ill., Ernest, Marion, Ill., Lee, Madison, Wis., Grover, Herrin, Ill., and George, Goreville.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Downing Mortuary. The Rev. Dr. F. B. Thorn, pastor of First Baptist Church, will officiate.

Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens.

Rachel M. Chance, Ex-missionary, 69, Dies at Residence

Mrs. Rachel M. Chance, 69, of 611 S. Vine, died Tuesday at her home. She had resided in Wichita for 32 years. She spent from 1917 to 1927 as a missionary to Alaska from Friends Church.

She was a member of University Friendsw Church and for 20 years was secretary of Friends Mission Board of Kansas Yearly Meeting.

Mrs. Chance was born June 28, 1889, in Cherokee County, Kan., and came to Wichita in 1905.

Survivors include her husband, Sylvester, retired Wichita teacher; three sons, J. Arthur, 1645 N. St. Paul, Ralph S., Kansas City, Kan., and Homer R., Ann Arbor, Mich.; two sisters, Miss Iva V. Pickering, 118 S. Athenian and Mrs. Ruth P. Schmoe, Seattle, Wash.; and four grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Downing Mortuary.

Rites Arranged for Woman, 80

Funeral services for Mrs. Daisy May Mooberry, 80, of 253 N. Meridian, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Downing Mortuary. The Rev. Forrest J. Reynolds, pastor of St. Luke’s Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Attica Cemetery, Goddard.

Mrs. Mooberry died Sunday at St. Francis Hospital.

Honorary bearers will be Will Schnoor, Ed Miles, Russell Woods, Albert Carlson, Walter Hutchinson and Long Gregory.

Active bearers will be O. N. Bennett, W. Gene Louie, Charles Marsolf, George and Clinton Cross and Dean Pittinger.

Funeral Services Set for Wichitan, Walter Hope, 75

Funeral services for Walter Hope, 75, of 453 S. Glendale, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Broadway Mortuary.

The Rev. George H. DeBoer, pastor of Westminister-Linwood Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Old Mission Cemetery.

Mr. Hope died Monday in Wesley Hospital, Oklahoma City, Okla. He had been a resident of Wichita for 49 years, having come here from Enid, Okla. A retired building contractor, Mr. Hope had been visiting his son, Harlan, in Oklahoma City, for several months prior to his death.

He was born Oct. 27, 1883, at Hillsboro, Ill. His wife, Nella, died Nov. 7, 1956.

Leon Barge, 62, Dies in Hospital

Leon Barge, 62, of 920 Cleveland, a porter at Union Station, died Tuesday in Veterans Hospital.

Born Jan. 21, 1897, at Winchester, Tex., he had been a Wichita resident for 32 years. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and of Arthur Gossett American Legion Post.

He is survived by his wife, Ethel.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Citizens Funeral Home.

Rites at Burlington Set for Wichitan, 57

Graveside services for Lloyd H. Daugherty, 57, of 1701 S. Richmond, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Graceland Cemetery, Burlington, Kan. He had been a Wichita resident for 10 years.

Mr. Daugherty died Monday at his home.

Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Anna Titus, Salina, Kan., two sisters, Miss Geneva Daugherty, Tulsa, Okla., and Mrs. Beulah Kroll, Shenandoah, Iowa; and a brother, George, Tulsa.

Broadway Mortuary has charge of arrangements.
