DAUGHTER IS DEAD
Caroline Isabel Babb Dies in
Hospital
Caroline Isabel Babb, attendance secretary at North high school and daughter of a
former Wichita mayor, William J. Babb, died early this morning at a local hospital. She
had been ill for a month.
Miss Babb was a member of one of Wichita's best known families. Her mother, Mrs. Minerva
Babb,
and grandmother, Mrs. Isabella Clough, were charter members of the Fairmount Library club,
one of the oldest women's clubs in the city.
Miss Babb attended Fairmount grade school and Fairmount academy. She was graduated from
the University of Kansas and took graduate work at the University of Virginia. She taught
in the public schools of Oklahoma and at Oklahoma A&M college.
She was employed for a time at the American State bank in Wichita and then moved to
Washington, D. C., where for 11 years she designed for her own women's fashion shop. She
was also employed in government offices in Washington and was secretary of a neighbor-
hood settlement house.
She had been a member of the staff at North high for the past five years.
Miss Babb retained her membership in a DAR chapter at Washington. In Wichita, she belonged
to the BPW, the Garden club and the Fairmount Library club.
Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Walter Rautenstrauch, Palisade, N. J., and Miss
Virginia Babb, Wichita attorney; one brother, William J. Babb, Jr., of Wichita, and four
nephews and two nieces.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p. m. Wednesday from the Gill mortuary chapel.

Caroline Isabel Babb, attendance secretary at Wichita High School
North, died Monday at a local hospital after an illness of a month. Her father, William J.
Babb, was mayor of Wichita and both her mother and grandmother were charter members of
Fairmount Library Club, one of the oldest women's clubs of the city.
Miss Babb attended Fairmount grade school and Fairmount Academy and was graduated from the
University of Kansas. She took graduate work at the University of Virginia, taught in the
Oklahoma schools and at Oklahoma A & M College and then came to Wichita to be employed
at the American State Bank. Going to Washington, D. C., she was designer and owner of a
women's fashion shop, was secretary of a neighborhood settlement house and was in
government service. Five years ago she joined the North High office staff.
Miss Babb was a member of the Wichita Business and Professional Women's Club and the
Fairmount Library Club. She retained her membership in a Washington D. A. R. She leaves
two sisters, Mrs. Walter Rautenstrauch, Palisade, N. J., and Virginia Babb, Wichita
attorney; one brother, William J. Babb; four nephews and two nieces.
Funeral services will be announced by the Gill Mortuary.
