PIONEER OBITUARY
Margaret J. Kirkpatrick was born in Brown County Ohio, Aug. 26th, 1842, and died at her home in Mt. Hope Kansas, Feb. 10, 1913 at the age of 70 yrs, 5 mo. 24 days.
She united with the church of Christ at Liberty Chapel, Ohio at the age of twelve.
The deceased was married to Lewis W. Baird, Feb 26, 1868 and moved to Kansas in 1871 making her home in the vicinity of Mt. Hope for the remainder of her life with the exception of five years spent in Wichita, Kansas.
To this union were born five children, two of whom have preceded their mother to the great beyond. Martha R. Baird, dying at the age of 15 and James Newton Baird at the age of 9.
She leaves a husband Lewis W. Baird three sons, Arthur L. of Billings Okla, Robert K. and Fred C. both of Mt Hope, also two brothers and two sisters, Mr Robert Kirkpatrick, Medford, Oklahoma, Mr. John A Kirkpatrick of Marshall Oklahoma, Mrs W. C. Brown, of Mt. Hope Kansas, and Mrs Thompson Edwards of Lawsbe, Ohio, to mourn her loss. All were present with the exception of Mrs Edwards.
Sister Baird was one of the leading workers of the Mt. Hope Christian Church, willing, capable and faithful to her Lord's work. An active citizen of the kingdom of Christ, making full proof of her descipleship (sic). She was an active member of the W.C.T.U. and a charter member of the W.?C.
The funeral service was held in the Christian church on Friday Feb. 21, 1913 being conducted by Rev. Hay with the assistance of Rev. Cone and ..arron.
The Clarion joins with the many friends of the stricken family in expressing sympathy in this their hour of sorrow.
