The war department last night released the names of one Wichitan who had been killed in action in the European theater of operations, together with two others who had been wounded and two who were prisoners.
Pfc. Leo C. Clark, 22-year-old son of Mrs. Loneta M. Clark, 2021 South Wichita, was reported killed on April 11 in Germany. The East high graduate was with the Seventh armored division of the U. S. First army. Inducted into the armed forces on February 16, 1944, he took his basic training at Camp Fannin, Tex., and had been overseas since August of last year.
Pvt. Elmer J. Knoll, husband of Mrs. Florence I. Knoll, 1711 South Madison. and Pfc. Pete T. Ornelas, son of Victoriano Ornelas, 812 East Eighteenth, were listed as wounded in action.
The Wichitans revealed as prisoners of the German government were Sergt. Howard P. Anderson, son of Mrs. Anne C. Anderson, 226 North Bluff, and Corp. Charles E. Enochs, son of Mrs. Agnes E. Enochs, 2405 She]ton.
A Hutchinson marine, Pvt. Johnny A. Dale was reported killed in action in the Pacific theater. Another marine, Second Lieut. Charles L. Eberhart, Salina, was wounded. A Hutchinson soldier, Tech, Sergt. John H. Barnhart, was said to have been killed in the European regions, along with Pfc. Julius Cox, Zenda.
Some of the others from this vicinity reported wounded in Europe were Pfc. Galen R. Gwinup, Wellington, and Pfc. Merlin L. Mills, Winfield.
Tech. Sergt. Melvin E. Chambers, Arkansas City, and Pvt. Kenneth E. Smith, Hutchinson, were announced as having been among the liberated prisoners of war of the German government.
