George Wayne McCandless, 32, of 344 North Kansas, was found dead shortly after 4:30 p. m. Wednesday on the front seat of his car in a closed garage at the rear of his home.
Detective Carl Spriggs said police found a length of rubber hose attached to the exhaust pipe of the car leading into the rear ventilation window. Spriggs said the man apparently had been in the car two hours. He said that although the motor was not running when the body was found, it apparently had been running earlier.
Attempts to revive McCandless in St. Francis hospital were unsuccessful.
McCandless was born in Hutchinson and had lived in Wichita two years. He was a veteran of World war II.
Surviving are his wife Mary; his parents Mr. and Mrs. William McCandless, Hutchinson; three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Skinner, 3000 East Murdock; Mrs. Helen Siegel, 806 South Rutan, and Mrs. Edna Hamilton of Hutchinson, and four brothers, James Earl of Hutchinson; Willis of Denver; Robert, with the army of occupation in Japan, and Richard of Hutchinson.
Funeral arrangements will be made by the Downing mortuary.
