Gordon Mitchell, Hoisington, Was Member
of U.S. Air Corps

Hoisington, Kas., Dec. 8.--In a terse message from the war department, Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Mitchell were notified last night that their son, Corp. Gordon Mitchell, 28, was killed in the Japanese air raid on Honolulu Sunday.
Mitchell was in the air corps and was a member of a ground crew stationed at Hickam Field. He enlisted at Detroit, Mich., in October. 1940, and arrived at Honolulu December 12, last year.
No details were contained in the message telling the Mitchells of their son's death. It was assumed he died as Hickam Field personnel went into action to defend themselves against the surprise Jap assault.
Young Mitchell was a native of Hoisington and a graduate of Hoisington High School. He was the first Kansan reported killed in the Jap war on the United States. Surviving, besides his parents, are a brother, Milton, an employee in a defense industry plant at Los Angeles, and a sister who also lives in California.
The elder Mitchell, long a resident of Hoisington, conducts a tinning and plumbing business.
