EFFIE ROSELLA NESTLEROAD SCOVELL
Died, June 5th, 1909, Effie Rosella, wife of Frank Scovell, aged 47 years.
Mrs. Scovell's maiden name was Nesselrode and was born near Prarie City, Illinois, May
8th 1862. In the year 1883 she was united in marriage with Frand [sic] Scovell, and for a
little over a quarter of a century they were sharers of the joys and sorrows incident to
this life. To this union seven children were born, Eugene, Earl, Ray, Virgle, Rosa, (Mrs.
Speer) Alma (Mrs. Edward Whitelaw), and Fern.
These children are all living and have the treasure of the mothers love and self sacrifice
in their behalf. At four years of age death robbed Mrs. Scovell of a mother's care. As
members of her girlhood home she leaves her father, brother and three sisters. When
fifteen years of age Mrs. Scovell united with the Christian Church and in all these years
by life and character proved the truth of the statement "That Kings daughters are
among thy honorable women."
In the fall of 1898 the family removed from Cornwall Iowa to Garden Plain and a few
years later to Cheney.
Seventeen years ago was the beginning of the malady that finally sapped her strength and
vitality. For some five years her right limb was partially paralyzed. At her own request
she was removed on June 4th to the Wichita hospital for an operation, which was performed
June 5th.
She rallied from the operation so far as to recognize her husband, but soon her tired body
was at rest. Her funeral was from the Christian Church June 8th conducted by her pastor
Rev. Myers.
The Casket was covered with flowers, among which was a wreath of white roses and
pink carnations from the young mens and young ladies class. Cross of roses and carnations
by the Bible class, and a boquet from the Ladies Aid Society, tokens of love to their
fellow worker in Sunday School and Church. An immense audience of loving friends and
neighbors were present to sorrow with the bereaved family and to fully endorse the
beautiful eulogy of her life and character as spoken by her pastor.
