AGED WICHITA WOMEN DIESMrs. Louise Wardell, 80, of 516 South Broadway, well known as a former
matron of the Wichita Children's Home, died Thursday in a local hospital. Born on July 21,
1865 at Buffalo, N. Y., Mrs. Wardell came to Derby, Kas., in 1884. She moved to Wichita in
1898. accepting the position of matron for the Children's Home, serving the organization
in that capacity until 1915. She was the widow of the late T. D. Wardell of Derby, Kas.,
and a member of the Presbyterian church.
Surviving are a son, Charles J. Jockson; 1440 Salina; two brothers, G. C. Machtrieb,
Atchison, and George A. Machtrieb, Cornwall, N. Y.; a sister, Mrs. J. F. McCoy, of the
home; two grandchildren,. Capt. Lewis Jackson, serving with the marines, and Lieut. Jane
Jackson Wilcox, serving with the women's reserve corps of the marines; and a
great-grandson, Charles Michael Jackson, Los Angeles, Calif.
Funeral services will be announced by the Gill Mortuary.
