John A. Copp, born about 1825 in Pennsylvania, was in Kentucky in 1870. I think John died between 1888 and 1900. He was in the Topeka city directory in 1874, and 1888, but could not find him in Shawnee County 1900 census. He was married first to Mary Ann Beckwith, and later to Laura E.. I Believe she died before 1900. Is there an obituary index, that might list them?

He had a son, William Harmony Copp, who also lived in Shawnee County. John and Laura's children were: John W., Lena, and Frank Copp. Thank you for your time.

Jane, don't know if you got your answer or not. If so, please disregard this. The Topeka State Hospital (the last name it was known by) closed approximately 3 years ago. I will check tomorrow but I believe records are held by the Kansas Department of Health & Environment, Center for Health and Environmental Statistics. I work for the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (but on the Environment side of it). The entire agency is in the process of a move. My gr-grandfather was Charles Cooper, married to Veronica Fry, I don't know where or when. Their oldest son was Alford Cooper, and according to his SSN Application he was born in Topeka, Shawnee Co, KS, on June 4, 1914. My grandmother, Luella Cooper, was born in Colorado in 1907.

they had four children: wayne ray euler, roland euler, grechen and claudia euler.
wayne was my father. all four children are dead.

My grandfather, George Shelby Oliver, b. 1875 in Nashville TN, son of John and Lou (Louisa, or Louella ?) Oliver moved with his parents to Topeka at the age of 16 (approx 1891) .

He owned a billiard parlor in Topeka during the 1920's and was married and had a son Jewell by his first wife, who may have had the maiden name Stillwell.

Am looking for a record of his marriage, and any census records for his years in Topeka - trying to confirm the name of his mother and first wife. He later married Mabel Bodine from Emporia, and moved to Chicago.

I am looking for information on Leonidas Hascall, from Quincy IL who settled in Topeka, Shawnee, KS with his wife, Sophia Spies Hascall. They were married in Quincy in 1863. She died in Quincy, a widow, in 1923 and was buried somewhere in Topeka with Leonidas, I presume. I would love to have any information on their life in Topeka, their burial location, etc. The informant on her death certificate is a Mrs. A. L. Wiseman of Topeka.

The 1870 Fed. Census of Topeka, Shawnee Co. lists Milton OKERSON, his wife Jemima CRUM, and children. The family arrived in Shawnee Co. about 1868. Milton died 12 Apr 1871 and is buried in Crum Cemetery in Chautauqua Co. I am wondering if he died in Topeka and his body was taken to Chautauqua Co. for burial. Are there any Shawnee Co. death records or obits available for 1871? The children born in Topeka are Franklin OKERSON in 1868 and Ida M. OKERSON in Jan. 1870. Milton OKERSON was a blacksmith in Topeka.

According to military pension records Ursula W. Tanner died in Topeka, Ks on December 7, 1902. In 1900 she is listed in OK with her son and daughter.

She is my ggg grandmother and I am looking for her burial place. She has a couple of granddaughters that lived in Lawrence but no record of her burial in that Co.

I am looking for any information on William Casper Haynes and Elecia Jane Miller - I have about 50 Civil War Letters from him to her

I have continued to read and decipher some of the Civil War Letters and found that -
WILLIAM CASPER HAYNES he received a letter from his Grandmother (possibly) Haynes from White County Georgia who owned between 300-400 acres and 15 slaves. In this same letter is a reference to three names TIPTON< McKINEY< TRESTON. He states that his grandmother has only 2 children about 35 yrs old in this same letter and will se her after the war.

He wrote to his mother Mary Ann ??

I also found a reference to a John Elesworth Haynes. He refers to his mother in law Mary Jane Miller, Johnny, and Beckey.

He told Elecia Jane MILLER HAYNES to buy the Silvers Place and build a house on it.

1. Carl Andreas Johnson (Johnsen here in Norway) b. 1855 mar. Marit Jacobsdaughter H¿ie b. 1860. Chil; Astrid Josefine b.1883, Signe b.1884 and Ingvald Otilius Johan b.1886
Carl departed the norwegian harbour Trondheim 8.6.1887 for Monroe, Wisconsin and his family came over three months later 7.9. 1887. Later the family moved to Topeka.'
2. Anton Eberg Johnson b.1876 (or 1875) departed 8.1.1900 from Trondheim for Topeka, Kansas. His ticket was payed for in America. He was listed as married, but travelling alone. I have been unabled to find him married here in North of Norway in the parish of Trondenes (now Harstad).
3. Andreas Martin Johnson b.1868 mar. Hilma Olsdaughter b.1872. Chil; Signe Joakime b. 1898 and Ingeborg Jonette Ottelie b. 1900. They departed Trondheim for Topeka, Kansas 22.5.1901.
I've got 3 old photos of these people sent to relatives in Harstad in those days. The photographers were: 1. Leouard, 2. Snyder,
3. A.D.Grigs. All taken in Topeka, Kansas.

I am researching the GOCHENOUR family. I believe that at lease one of their 8 children was born in Topeka, Shawnee Co. KS.
Parents names are Edgar and Ella (RADAR or REEDER). One daughter, Elsie Alice GOCHENOUR, is said to be born in KS, probably 1901 or 1902. The GOCHENOUR family moved from Pickaway Co., OH to Kansas after 1890, and then back to Pickaway Co. Anna Sophia Pettersson and Emma Mathilda Pettersson: Two sisters left Gothenberg, Sweden on October 10, 1871 on the ship Scandinavia. They were headed for Topeka, KS. Anna Sophia's church transfer was found at Trinity Lutheran Church in Topeka but that is all we know of them after they came to America. Anna's church transfer listed her as Anna Sophia Rapp. Rapp was her father's soldier name, but the ship records listed both girls as Pettersson. She had 2 Sisters, Orpha and Gladys and 1 Brother, Floyd. She moved to Portland, Oregon sometime around the early 1900s and married Francis Hugh Agnew in 1905.

I am looking for information about my grandfather, George S. Oliver, who died when I was a young child. I found a clipping of an obituary published in The Topeka Daily Citizen, which stated that he lived in Topeka for many years.(he died in NY at the age of 80, in 1955)

I also found a business card with his portrait on it, from the early 1900's
"Oliver Pool and Billiard Hall - 404 Kansas Avenue, Bell Telephone 513"

I know that my grandmother was his second wife - I do not know who the lady was he was married to in Topeka - I know he had brothers and sisters - and a son named Jewell, by his first wife.

The obit also said that he lived in "Maple Hill" before moving to Topeka - is Maple Hill a suburb of Topeka?

Would appreciate any pointers on where to start tracking down information. My grandfather was African-American.

I am looking for descendants of Adeline Hepler Cox Kiehl. She was born in 1890 to Mr. and Mrs.John J. Hepler. She married Vernon Cox and later Claude E. Kiehl. She had two children with Vernon Cox; John D. Cox who lived in Topeka and a daughter Elizabeth Flora Cox who was believed to have been born in 1913. She married Sidney Lyle Johnson in Topeka.

Mrs. Kiehl also had a daughter with Claude Kiehl and her name was Mary Lou Kiehl. It is known that Mr. Kiehl had a daughter whose only name know was as Mrs. Shannon. I would appreciate any information on this family.

I don't know if this is any help. I have a Vernon Joe Cox (s/o Joseph Nathan Cox, b. 16 October 1903 and Norine \\). Joseph Nathan was son of Moses Cox and Mariva Books (b. 08 June 1864). Mariva was sister to my Jacob J. Books (b. Dauphin Co., PA > Toledo, Chase Co., KS). There is a Moses Cox bur. at Toledo Cemetery (altho not sure if same). It is believed that my great-grandfather moved to Kansas from Ohio to work on the railroad. His wife was named Evaline. They had one known son Carson whom was born in Columbus, Ohio in 1860. Carson married Fannie Belle Garrett in Illinois in 1882. I have no knowledge of how he got to Illinois or from where he came. An elder sister said at one time, that he went to Kansas to stay with a cousin and work on a railroad. I have a wealth of info on his wife, Evaline Spangler but do not know their marriage date. My great-grandmother Blanche Henry married my great-grandfather Frank Elisha Bosworth in Topeka, Shawnee County, KS on Sept. 29th, 1901. Frank was then killed in a bridge accident, making the front page of the news on Oct. 20, 1910.

I have not been able to find any more information on Blanche Henry's origin. Does anyone know where she came from or her parents names? Blanche was born on Sept. 29th, 1879 and married on Sept. 29, 1901 - exactly her 22nd birthday. After the death of her husband, she remarried Julius Kramer.

I would appreciate any information you can provide, and will share any Bosworth information that I can assist with (can trace to Mayflower).

Looking for family of James L. Jones, who d. in Topeka 13 October 1892, and b.in Topeka Cemetery. Children I can't find are LeRoy, b. 1872, in IL, and Alice, who may have been born in Topeka, date unsure. Alice married.- G. L. Davis in Topeka on 17 May 1908. Had a daughter, Helen Josephine Davis in 1908. Alice remarried a ? Bleaksley, not sure where. James' wife, Alice Krum Jones returned to IL after James died. James had worked at the Santa Fe rail yards as an upholsterer.

Would like to contact anyone with knowledge of the family. James L. and Alice Krum were my wife's great grandparents.

I'm very interested in the ancestry and siblings of Jonathan T. Snyder. A portion of his bio follows:

One of the old homesteads of Williamsport Township in Shawnee County is that of Jonathan T. Snyder. He has been a resident of Kansas nearly fifty years, and during almost all that time has been continuously devoted to farming and stock raising. At the same time he has borne an influential part in the affairs of his home community and is one of the highly respected men of that section of Shawnee County.

He was born on a farm near Johnsville, in Morrow County, Ohio, August 14, 1845, a son of John and Mary (Held) Snyder, the former a native of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and the latter of Germany. Of the nine children, six are still living.
