BELLE PLAINE NEWS, Oct. 18 1900, Thursday.

Died. Mrs Phoebe (Clark) Troutman died Sunday at the home of her son M. Troutman south of this city, aged 72 years and was buried at the Belle Plaine Cemetary on Tuesday. There were present of the family, Mike and Darius Troutman of this city, Jonah, of Douglass, James, of Kansas City, Ezra, of South Haven, and Mrs. Tilbury, Dover, O.T. Mrs. Snider and Mrs. Rouch, of Dalton City, Ills., were unable to be present. Mrs. Troutman was loved and respected by all. She had made her home at her son's since April and having reached a ripe old age was gathered home. The sons and daughters and other relatives have the sympathy of a host of friends in this their sad bereavement.

Mrs. Phoebe (Clark)Troutman, whose demise was noted last week, came from one of the early American families. Her father pre-empted 278 acres of land in Fulton Co., Indiana in an early day, while the Indians were yet numerous just across the river. He brought his money with which to pay for the land, in an old wooden bucket. This land is still in the family, for a long time farmed by Wm. Troutman but now that he has a farm of his own the land is rented. Neither Will of Metea, Ind., nor Mrs. Snider, of Dalton City, Ills., were present at the funeral; however Mrs. Rouch whom we said last week was not here, was present. There are ten children of the family, and all survived their parents.
