John James Drummond, born February 10, 1835, in Clarksburg, West Virginia, came with his wife, Cynthia, to Western Kansas in 1888. He settled first in Graham County where he took up a tree claim. His wife died there and on November 8, 1896 he married Mary Elizabeth Robinson. To this union was born one daughter, Lois.
The Drummonds moved to Trego County where they were engaged in the mercantile and hotel business. The hotel was located at the south end of Main Street (near the present Skelly station) at which both room and board were provided for guests. J. J. served as sheriff for two terms, during which the family of three lived in the court house in quarters provided for the sheriff. He also served several terms as township trustee.
Mary Drummond was born April 19, 1855, in Belmont County, Ohio and died February 19, 1918, her death due to anemia. J. J. Drummond died February 10, 1935.
