OBITUARY of Alexander B. Mumert
Obituary: "Alexander B. Mumert was born at Cashtown, Adams County, Penn., September 8, 1833, and died at his home in WaKeeny, Ks., March 9, 1916, aged 82 years, 6 months, and 1 day. He was married to Sarah Pope at Lyndon, Ill., November 19, 1854 and to them eleven children were born, eight of whom are still living.
Previous to the Civil War Mr. Mumert had moved to Missouri and when the call came for volunteers he bade his wife and children goodby and enlisted in Co. E, 7 Missouri volunteer infantry and served his country for over 3 years, receiving an honorable discharge at the end of the war.
He was a member of the G.A.R. and several of the old soldiers attended the funeral in a body and paid a tribute of last respect to their departed comrade. Mr. Mumert and family came to Graham County in 1880 and in 1885 to this county locating on a farm adjoining WaKeeny on the south. In 1910 he sold his farm and has lived in this city ever since.
He was a kind and peaceful citizen of excellent character and those who knew him best held him in high esteem and extend sincere sympathy to the aged widow, children and grandchildren who survive him."
