OBITUARY of Clyde K. Ukele
WaKeeney � Clyde K. Ukele, 79,died Friday, April 9, 2004, at the Lutheran Home.
He was born in Ogallah, Kansas to Leroy & Marjorie (Tawney) Ukele. He graduated from Trego Community High School, WaKeeney.
VETERAN U. S. AIR FORCE WWII.
He was a belly-gunner on B-17 named "Satin's Lady" with the 369 Bomb squadron of the 306th. Bomb Group, the "Fighting' & Bitin' Boxing Bumblebee." The Group disbanded in 1945 in England following completion of a total of 30 missions over Germany. "Satin's Lady" flew more than 130 missions, & his crew was first to fly over Germany. His crew was also the most decorated squadron of the Eighth Air force in the European Theater.
He married Myrtle �Jinx� Carpenter on July 27, 1946, in WaKeeney. He trained with the Kansas Wildlife & Parks Department & was the game warden at Sebelius Lake until his retirement. He was an avid fisherman & hunter.
Survivors include a son, Rick Ukele, two daughters, Quenadyne Bucher & Deirde Hoover & husband Greg. Four grandsons, Brian Hoover, Jason & Corey Ukele & Justin Bucher, a sister & brother-in-law, Hazel & Charlie Zeman & nieces & nephews. Two grandchildren, Kenneth & Krystal Ukele, & a son �in �law, John Bucher.
He was preceded in death by a son, Roger Ukele, two grandchildren, Kenneth & Krystal Ukele, & a son-in-law, John Bucher.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Enfield Funeral Home, Norton; private burial in the Norton Cemetery.
