A Brief History of Woodson County

 

The Kansas Territory was organized in 1854, Woodson County was established in 1855 with Yates Center as the county seat. The county was named after Daniel Woodson, a five-time acting governor of the Kansas Territory, and is divided into six townships: Center, Liberty, Neosho Falls, North, Perry and Toronto. Kansas became the 34th U.S. state in 1861.
