miles. Turn LEFT (south) on Hereford Road (dirt/gravel) and
go one-half mile. Turn RIGHT (west) on 175 Road (gravel). Go
about one-half mile. Cemetery is on the South side of the
road. This is a very well kept cemetery. |

Located on a small hill on the east side of Highway 75,
south of the North Owl Creek crossing, about 2.5 miles north
of Yates Center, in section 35, township 24 south, range 15
east. There are four visible grave markers. After the close
of the Civil War, a wagon train including the Murphy family
and families of Hiram Cook, Capt. John C. Allen and Margaret
Blanchard arrived from Kirksville, Missouri and settled
along North Owl Creek. Among the burials here are Capt. John
C. Allen, a son and grandson, and Hiram Cook's son Henry,
who had married Capt. Allen's daughter Elizabeth. |
