Obituary of MADENA T. CHITTENDEN |
Madena T. Chittenden, 89, 2403 Walnut Street, died
Wednesday, December 19, 2001, at the Marriott Brighton Gardens Nursing
Home, Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was born May 7, 1912, in Jetmore, to Clifford Ray and Madena Jane Leighton Hoagland. She married Herbert H. Chittenden in June of 1932, at Hays. He died June of 1965. She has lived in Hays for 65 years and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She worked at the Hays Daily News and Hays Travel Agency, served as a state secretary of the Republican Party of Kansas in the 1950's and was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. She was a graduate of Brownell High School and attended Fort Hays State College. She has lived in Colorado since August of 2001. She was preceded in death by: her parents, husband, one brother, Keith Hoagland, one half brother, Ted Gumble, and one sister, Marquerite Johannes. Survivors include: three daughters, Jane Seeman, Vienna, Virginia, Susan Wittwer, Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Pamela Birchfield, Prairie Village, three sisters, Lavone French, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Juanita Weedman, Houston, Texas, and Marchetta Rassmussen, Montrose, Colorado; six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday, December 29, at Cline's Mortuary of Hays, with Rev. Bill Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Allen Cemetery, Hays. Visitation is from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, December 29, at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to Hays Public Library. |
