Obituary of MINNIE IZORA DALTON |
Minnie Izora Dalton, daughter of Thomas and Sarah Jane Osborn (Sic.), was born near Virgil, Kansas January 26, 1872. Her father and mother homesteaded the farm where the family lived near Virgil. She attended school in Virgil and she studied music at the Emporia Normal. On August 31, 1893, she was married to William Thomas Grove. Fifty years later on August 31, 1943, they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Five children were born to them, four of whom survive; Gladys Adams of Ottawa, Kansas, Harold Grove of Neal, Kansas, Harriet Devis and Wendell Grove of Winfield, Kansas. A son William Paul passed away in 1917. One sister Mrs. Mary E. Wiggins, eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren survive her, Dr. and Mrs. Grove came to Eureka in 1895 and lived here until 1931. They moved to Liberal, Kansas and returned to Eureka in 1935. She was a member of the Methodist Church for many years and was active in the functions until her health failed. She was a member of the Altrurian Club of Eureka, the Royal Neighbors and the Eastern Star. Following the death of her husband, she lived the past two years at Valley View Convalescent Home near El Dorado, Kansas where she passed away March 4, 1952 at 10:00 p.m. Funeral service was held from the Baird Funeral Home Friday March 7 at 2:00 p.m. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery. Thomas was the son of Francis and Biddy (Coyle) Dalton of DeKalb County, Missouri. |
