Obituary of CATHARINE A. LORD |
DEATH OF MRS. LORD - Mrs. C.C. Lord died at her home here Thursday, September 13, following a protracted illness. Funeral services were held at the home on Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. E.C. Nelson, pastor of the Lutheran Church. With a few additions, the following obituary was written by Mrs. Lord shortly before her death. Catharine A Weaver was born at Huff Run, near Canton, Ohio, May 21st, 1849. Her father being a minister, the family lived in different places in her earlier childhood, settling finally in Waterville, Franklin County, where her father the trustee of Otterbein University. The Spring of her 6th year he decide to go farther west and locate another college, this being his chosen work. They settled near Vinton, Hurton Co. Iowa, where they remained a year, afterwards going to Western Linn Co. where Western College was located. Her father was the founder and first president, from 1856 to 1864. Here
