Obituary of KATHERINE ISABEL McNUTT GRIFFITH |
Katherine Isabel McNutt, daughter of Liza Jane and Henry
McNutt, was born near Rantoul, Kansas, March 30th, 1860 and departed this
life Sept. 19th, 1946, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Clara Wasson,
Meade, Kansas, at the age of 86 years, 5 months and 19 days.
At age 22 years, she was united in marriage to Oliver Griffith of Stanton, KS. To this union twelve children were born. Her husband Oliver Griffith, preceded her in death in June, 1930, also two infant daughters and one son, Ollie died in the service in World War 1. Her childhood and early life was spent near Rantoul, Kansas. In Feb. of 1905, she and her husband and family of 10 children settled on a homestead ten miles southeast of Elkhart, KS in Oklahoma. About the years 1928 she and her husband moved to Elkhart to make their home. She accepted her Lord at the age of 61 years and remained a faithful Christian until she was called home. She was a devoted mother and always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. She was truly a pioneer mother and she was also a "Gold Star" mother of World War 1. She is survived by four sons and 5 daughters: David Griffith and Beryl Griffith of Elkhart, Kansas, Edd Griffith of Guymon, Okla.., Harrison Griffith of Twin Falls, Idaho, Mrs. Sylvia Gerard of Monrovia, Cal., Mrs. Clara Wasson of Mead, Kans., Mrs Mary Wasson of Meade, Kans.., Mrs. Emily Landon of Topeka, Kans.., and Mrs. Lena Corey of Twin Falls, Idaho. 30 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
