Obituary of HARVEY E. RADKE |
Funeral services for Harvey E. Radke, 58, 525 W. 1st St., who died Saturday morning, (13 January 1979) will be be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. John Lutheran Church. Rev. James Strasen of Redeemer Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in Russell City Cemetery, with military honors at the grave side by William Roe Unit No. 99, The American Legion. Friends may call after 4 p.m. today until noon Wednesday at the Cline Funeral Home and after 1 p.m. Wednesday to service time at St. John Lutheran Church. A memorial has been established to the Heart Fund. Mr. Radke was stricken with an apparent heart attack at his home Saturday morning, Jan. 13. He was reported dead on arrival at Russell City Hospital. At the time of his death he was assistant cashier, assistant security officer and head teller of the Russell State Bank. He entered employment there in 1947 on return from military service. He was born Sept. 14, 1920, at Milberger, Russell, County, the son of William and Ida (Karst) Radke. He was baptized Nov. 14, 1920, in the Lutheran faith at Milberger and was confirmed in 1935 by Rev. Gemelich of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1942 in World War II was discharged in 1946. He was stationed at Shepherd's Field, Texas, for basic training in mechanical instruments. After his discharge he joined the American Legion Post in Russell where he has filled all positions. He was post commander in 1964 and has been finance officer since 1948. He is a member of Elks Lodge No. 1715 in Russell and of Voiture 1190 of the 10 & 8 in Salina. He was married to Velma Showalter July 25, 1965, in Dodge City. She survives, with his mother, Mrs. Ida Radke of Russell; a daughter, Cindy Radke, of Denver; and two other daughters, Mrs. Walter (Rebeca) Neill Jr., and Kathy Radke, of Russell; a son, Gary, Manhattan; five stepchildren, Charles Showalter of Rockport, Texas; David Showalter of Concordia, Mrs. Yvonne Hall of Topeka, Fred Showalter of Lyons, Neb., and John Showalter of Mulvane; a brother, Marvin Radke, of Milan, Tenn., and two sisters, Mrs. William (Dorlean) Steel, Dodge City, and Mrs. Otto (Lorene) Kahler, of Hutchinson; and 16 step-grandchildren. Cline Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. |
