Obituary of DOUGLAS HAYS DRIPS |
Douglas Hays DRIPS was born in Mt. Vernon, Knox Co, OH,
Sept 13, 1845 and died at Haddam, KS, Sept 11, 1931 at the age of 85
years, 11 months and 28 days. He was the last of ten children to pass on. On Dec 26, To this union eight children were born, two dying while quite young,
Alva A., twin brother of B.A. died in 1904 at the age of 25 years, A. H.
DRIPS of Haddam, A.W. DRIPS of Blue Island, IL, B.A. DRIPS, E.A. DRIPS and
Mrs. C.S. MULTER of Haddam, fifteen grandchildren and five great On Nov 1, 1923 he was married to Mary BARCLAY, who died Feb 16, 1931.
Hays DRIPS was on of the pioneers, from his native state Ohio, he came to
James Co, IA in 1866 and in 1868 In 1871 the spirit of adventure hied him to the grassy plains and smiling skies of Kansas, where he located on a homestead in Smith Co. Here he lived through all the joy and sorrow of the early days, saw beautiful sunrise and sunset, heavy storm clouds, fierce drought, his evenings the native coyotes long drawn howl. In 1883, he came to Washington Co, where he farmed for a time, then
became proprietor of that then important business the livery stable, a
position requiring tact, diplomacy, and business acumen. He held many Stable, quiet, and unassuming his was a strong character and he was liked and respected by all. A kind and generous friend and neighbor. The Rev. L.E. DIXON conducted the funeral services, Monday afternoon at
the M.P. Church. The text used was Psalms 34-1 "God is our refuge and
strength". |
