The Haddam CLIPPER this week will say:
The M. P. Church was crowded to its utmost capacity last sabbath morning. The occasion being, the funeral of Daniel James, of this city. The sermon was preached by Rev. Shepherd, President of the Kansas state conference. It was the wish of Mr. James, that Rev. Shepherd should preach the sermon. The text was preached from the 15th verse of the 116th psalm: Precious in the sight of the Lord, is the death of his saints. After singing by the choir: Shall we meet -- prayer was offered, the 23rd psalm was read. The lord is my shepherd, etc. and after singing, "We shall sleep but not forever" Dr. Shepherd, announced the text and proceeded to preach. The Dr. held his audience spell bound by his masterly effort. He is a deep thinker and an eloquent talker, and many an eye droped a tear as he proceeded with his text. As the remaines were viewed the choir sang -- It is well with my soul. The body was interred in the cemetrey north of the city.
