The Haddam CLIPPER this week will say: The M. P. Church was crowded to its utmost capacity last sabbath morning. The occasion being, the funeral of Daniel James, of this city. The sermon was preached by Rev. Shepherd, President of the Kansas state conference. It was the wish of Mr. James, that Rev. Shepherd should preach the sermon. The text was preached from the 15th verse of the 116th psalm: Precious in the sight of the Lord, is the death of his saints. After singing by the choir: Shall we meet -- prayer was offered, the 23rd psalm was read. The lord is my shepherd, etc. and after singing, "We shall sleep but not forever" Dr. Shepherd, announced the text and proceeded to preach. The Dr. held his audience spell bound by his masterly effort. He is a deep thinker and an eloquent talker, and many an eye droped a tear as he proceeded with his text. As the remaines were viewed the choir sang -- It is well with my soul. The body was interred in the cemetrey north of the city. OBITUARY Daniel James, father of Mrs. G. W. Sutton, was born in scott county Kentuckey, March 8th, 1814, was married, Nov. 28th 1833, to Miss Elizabeth Taylor, in Schuyler county Ill., near where he lived until 1870, at which time he emigrated with his family to Montgomery Co. Kans, where he lived most of the time until five years ago he came to this place to live, where he lived until his death; Aug. 5th 1893, at the age of 79yrs. 5mo. and 28 days. He died as he lived with a good hope and in great peace, having experienced that change of heart necessary to such a life and end. He was a member of the methodist (M. E. and M. P.) churches for fifty nine years.
