Gayle Myron Garrett
Lifelong WaKeeney area resident, Gayle Myron Garrett, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2014 at his home in WaKeeney. He was born May 18, 1945, in Hays, to Myron and Ada (McCoy) Garrett.
Gayle graduated from Trego Community High School in 1963. On August 8, 1969, he was united in marriage to Arlene Montgomery. They enjoyed 44 years of marriage together.
Gayle was a lifelong farmer and stockman until he moved off the farm and into WaKeeney due to his declining health. Gayle was a member of the First United Methodist Church of WaKeeney, having served as a Trustee. He was also a board member of Trego County Farm Bureau. He took a great interest in local, state, and national political issues. Gayle took great pride in his work to help others with their genealogy research. In addition to family research, he walked all the cemeteries in Trego, Graham and Sheridan Counties. He recorded all who were buried there. That information was then posted on the KSGenWeb internet site for access by everyone. He received many emails from around the world from grateful people who had been searching for their ancestors. After leaving the farm, he missed working with the soil, so he planted roses. Gayle’s roses were often admired. Many people would stop by to thank him for his roses because they were so beautiful.
