This is Nancy Ann Ford (Wheeler)(Servis). She died in the little bedroom right off of the livingroom of what was then the home of her son William Sumner Servis (last I knew the McBee family owned it) outside Rock, Cowley County, Kansas. I'm not sure whose handwriting that is on the bottom of the picture. It says "Mother" Mrs. N.A. Servis Taken in the years 1860 I remember well when taken. It really doesn't look like William's handwriting, but I do want to check on that. It is possible it's Aurelia's. I've got letters from her too, but she was quite elderly by that time, and handwriting changes over the years.

Nancy Ann Ford Servis b-February 16, 1821, in Saratoga County, New York to William E. Ford (Sr.) and Eliza Ann McBride d-March 14, 1895, at the home of her son William Sumner Servis just outside Rock, Cowley County, Kansas. bur-March 16, 1895, in Brooks Cemetery, Oshkosh, Vinland Township, Winnebago County, Wisconsin married (1st) to Joseph Seneca Wheeler in abt 1842 in New York. One son born of that union: Joseph Seneca Wheeler (Jr.). [He was called "Seneca" and/"Uncle Seneca" within the family. My grandfather said that Uncle Senca came to visit them in about 1915 in Rock.] married (2nd) to Charles Henry Service on March 12, 1848, in Northumberland, Washington County, New York. Obit: (from the Neenah Daily Times of Neenah, Winnebago County, Wisconsin), March 15, 1895, page 4: DEATH OF MRS. SERVIS Mrs. Charles H. Servis, a former resident of Neenah and Vinland, died Wednesday at Rock, Kansas, where she had been living with her son. Deceased had the grip in January from which she never recovered. Her age was 74 years. The remains will arrive here tomorrow, Saturday, and will be interred in Vinland, near Brooks. Mrs. Servis was sister-in-law of Mr. H[iram] Shoemaker of this city, and she also has a daughter, Mrs. Wesley Boulden and other relatives in Vinland. Died single. 3. Emeline Jane Servis b-June 8, 1852 in Vinland Township, Winnebago County, Wisconsin d-March 7, 1898 in Vinland, Winnebago County, Wisconsin married Edwin Wesley Boulden on June 4, 1871 in Winnebago County, Wisconsin 4. Celia Ann Servis b-December 20, 1853 in Vinland. Winnebago County, Wisconsin d-August 30, 1872 in Vinland, Winnebago County, Wisconsin buried in Brooks Cemetery, Oshkosh, Vinland Township, Winnebago County, Wisconsin on September 1, 1872. died single 5. His DC simply says "paralysis"... but he'd been growing steadily worse over about 6 months or so... got to where he couldn't stand up, walk, etc. buried - in the Servis & Allison family musleum in Sioux City, Woodbury County, Iowa married Hattie May Allison on May 22, 1895 in Sioux City, Woodbury County, Iowa. no children

Servis Brothers

I am so very proud of this June (or January) [I can't read my grandfather's handwriting] 1946 Kodachrome colour slide of the 3 Servis brothers: L-R Donald Carman Servis, Orville Charles Servis, Lester William Servis. Besides the fact it copied so well in my system... it is the only colour image I have of Don or Orville. My grandfather, Lester Servis, was quite an "advanced thinker" and he was experimenting with taking "family" colour pictures to be made into slides, as early as December 24, 1941 (oldest one I've found yet). This was revolutionary, because in the motion picture business, colour was still pretty experimental even into 1947. "Lassie" was one of the first full-colour movies using the 3-colour system in 1947 [and I might add that Rudd and Frank Weatherwax who owned Pal [who portrayed "Lassie"] were grandsons of William C. Weatherwax. William C. Weatherwax was the older brother of Pamelia Weatherwax (Kibbe) who was the grandmother of the above 3 Servis brothers (and some others)]. [That whole story gets into Franklin County, Kansas history, and Bourbon County, Kansas, history. If you want it, I'll send it along too, but it's about 1500 pages]. This slide/photo was taken in Hays, Ellis County, Kansas, where Lester W. Servis was the city manager. Why the 3 brothers got together for this, I don't know. Orville ran the family businesses and was the book-keeper, and his records are quite exact. He was the guardian/conservator for "Auntie" Aurelia Estella Servis (Carman) when she was declared a feeble minded person... and then after she died, he handled the estate. He also handled the estate of their father William Sumner Servis. I've got copies of some of his letters, and the correspondence that went on between the sibs (Don, Orville, Mary, and Lester).
