In October of 1870 Jacob B. Kellar brought land in the
South East quarter of Section number 30 in township number 34 south of
Range
number 20 East containing 160 acres.
It was recorded at Humboldt. Can anyone
tell me where this is and if Jacob B. Kellar shows on the 1870 census for Allen
County. He was in Labette Co., Kansas before buying this property.
Vicky
From: Dave Goldy davegoldy@swbell.net
Date: Saturday, November 24, 2001
Vicki
Section 30 of Township 34S, Range 20E is in Labette County,Kansas, not
Allen County. You will find it about 3 miles west of Bartlett, KS on US 166, on
the north side of the road. To the best of my knowledge, you can only record the
purchase of land in the county where is land is located Thus, you could not
record the purchase of Labette County land in Allen County.
You will find
Section 30 of Township 24S, Range 20E in Allen County. It is about 2.5 miles
east of La Harpe, KS on the north side of US 54. You might want to verify your
sources as to which Township the land was located in, 24S or 34S.
If your
library has a copy of "Township Atlas of the United States" by John L Androit,
on page 212 is a map of Kansas showing the location of all the Township,Ranges,
and counties. The map does not show the sections.
There is no listing for a
Jacob B Kellar in the index for the 1870 Federal Census. The index contains the
following:
Kellar:
Alna A Butler Co. 898 Walnut Twp
Charles Ellis Co.
028 Elsworth Twp
Reuben Franklin Co. 153 4 W. Ottowa
In the 1860 index for
the Federal Census, I found:
Kellar:
George P Leavenworth Co. 133
Leavenworth
Julisu Leavenworth Co. 120 Leavenworth
These two are likely in
the City of Leavenworth rather than a township.
You may also want to check
the all person indexes to the 1865 and 1875 State of Kansas Censuses. The
indexes will reference you to the actual census information. You can
interlibrary loan the indexes from the Kansas State Historical Society. Take a
look at the following link:
http://www.kshs.org/library/censks.htm
If you
have any questions, let me know.

"Savonburg" in the Words in Title box. The results page will give you the

order the films for you. You should also check out the link to "Interlibrary

Is there a

From:

Geneva was a town that was about 4-5 miles north and then 4-5
miles west of Iola. Back 20+ years ago, when I was a little boy, my
grandfather's farm was across the road from the cemetery. It was still
being used for interments and in good shape at that time. My grandfather
use to say that he was the gravedigger and maybe he was before his
health failed (though I think now he was just pulling the leg of his
grandson). I do remember decorations being put in a trash heap on his
property following Memorial Day one year. I don't know if the cemetery
is kept up anymore or not. I haven't been back that way in at least 6
years. I also don't know if there is a directory to it or not. Just
wanted to give you a little further information on where it was located.

My great grandfather, Curtis Calvin

anyone know what church he was pastor of? Probably Baptist of Methodist.
The graveside ceremonies were conducted by the Odd Fellows of Humboldt.
Does anyone know if they are still in existence and, if so, how to
contact them? This info came from his obituary which was in a Humboldt

Topic: HELMS - Allen County
From: Steve Burrows
kcsteve@sprintmail.com
Date: Sunday, March 26, 2000
Looking for
information on 'Daniel HELMS', and his wife, Grace J. YEAGER.
Daniel
HELMS was apparently born in Indiana around the year 1844. He came to
Kansas sometime after the age of 14. He may have came with his brothers
(Samuel & Isaac), where they joined 3 of their sisters (Nancy, Lucinda &
Susan) and their husbands, who apparently had apparently previously
moved to southeast Kansas. An older brother (Michael), and possibly
younger brothers and sister, (John Henry, Martin D., and Catherine A.);
[depending on when they came to Kansas, Martin and Catherine might not
have been born yet.], apparently remained in Indiana. Daniel would have
arrived in Kansas in 1873 or 1874. The 1850 and 1860 Indiana census
shows Daniel, his father, and mother and what are assumed to be, all,
his brothers and sisters at that time.
Daniel and his wife Grace,
first lived in a simple one room house, located a mile south of the
second house, that Daniel later built on the 80 acres (N. 1/2 of S. 1/4,
of 16-25-21, in Marmaton Township, Allen County), 3 1/2 miles southwest
of Bronson, Kansas. (It is now known as the Old George Broughton farm.)
Daniel and Grace are buried in the 'Old Elsmore Cemetery' in Allen Co,
KS.
Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated.

Topic: Olaf and Inga Nelson
From:
gin@osprey.net
Date: Wednesday, August 04, 1999
I am looking for
information on:
Olaf Nelson
Born: May 24, 1823
Place of
Birth: Holje, Parish of Jemshog, Province of Blekinge, Sweden
Died:
August 9, 1907
Place of Death: Savonburg, Allen Co. Kansas
Wife's
name: Inga
Immigrated from Sweden in November 1853. Settled in
Knoxville, Knox Co. Illinois. Moved to Springfield, Sangamon Co.
Illinois. Then to Savonburg, Allen Co. Kansas in February of 1870.
I
believe he is buried next to his wife in the Wannersburg Cemetary in
Savonburg.
We discovered a Newspaper article referring to Inga's
death in a Savonburg Trio-news Article from March 19, 1897. It says Mrs.
Olaf Nelson died in her home Tuesday. Which would be March 16th, 1897.
We have her birthdate as March 7, 1827.
My paternal Grandmother-
Mildred Frances (Kelly) Griffin b.6-9-1912 d. 3-24-1980
She was the
Daughter of- Frances Edna Boman b. 6-2-1892 Savonburg, Ks
Who was the
Daughter of- Samuel Robert Boman b. 4-10-1865 Springfield, IL and Sarah
Nelson b. 3-12-1867 Springfield, IL
Sarah Nelson is the daughter of
Olaf and Inga Nelson. So Olaf and Inga Nelson were my Paternal
Grandmother's Great-Grandparents.
Family legend states that Olaf was
nephew to a King Gustav of Sweden and was disowned for marrying beneath
himself. Supposedly to a maid in the king's palace.
It is possible
that he may have come to America as early as 1842. No one is sure.
I
would like to find a birth record or marriage record for Olaf and or
Inga but haven't had any luck as I am really new at this genealogy
stuff.

Daniel had eight of his children in Allen County

Benjamin had 5 children, but I am unsure of their birth places. He
married Melissa C. BISHOP. I have his children's names...but nothing
else.
My ancestor, Jeff Davis, married Rosantha NASH. Although
she was born in IA, her family lived and farmed in Kansas for over 20
