Obituary: Jack W. Garten

MEDICINE LODGE - Jack W. Garten, 75, died December 1, 1999 at Cedar Crest Manor, Sun City, the son of Stanley E. and Myrtle M. Whittaker Garten. A Medicine Lodge resident since 193_ (?), moving from Belvidere, he was a retired sexton for Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge, and had worked as a ranch hand on the Robbins Ranch, Belvidere, and as a shoe repairman and city marshall of Sharon.

He was a 50-year member of the Delta Masonic Lodge No. 77, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, all at Medicine Lodge. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

On November 15, 1949, he married A. Maude Stewart at Rocky, Okla. She survives.

Other survivors include a son, Jack W., Jr., Medicine Lodge, a daughter, Carol Ritter, Medicine Lodge, a brother, Bob, Sioux Falls, S.D., two sisters: Helen Obenchain, Cheyenne, Wy, and Ester Carter, Clyde Park, Montana; four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Larrison-Forsyth Funeral Home, Medicine Lodge, with the Rev. Tom Walters presiding. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to service time Saturday, both at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Sun City, with Masonic rites performed by Delta Lodge No. 77.

Memorials may be sent to the Sun City Community Building or the Sunnyside Cemetery, both in care of the funeral home.
